URBAN AFFAIRS COALITION TO HOST 49th ANNIVERSARY BREAKFAST
And We’re Just Getting Started
Honorees: Dr. Keith Leaphart, JoAnne Epps, Esq., Dr. Marisa Guerin
PHILADELPHIA, PA—The Urban Affairs Coalition, a nonprofit dedicated to building wealth in urban areas, will honor three individuals with prestigious awards during its 49th Anniversary Breakfast on Friday, November 16, 2018, 7:45 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Terrace Ballroom,1101 Arch St, Philadelphia, PA 19107 (12th & Market Street Entrance).
Over 800 guests, all decision makers in business, government and grassroots communities, will show their support at “Philadelphia’s Premier Networking Event,” as the Urban Affairs Coalition celebrates and honors leaders in the community who help inspire through their dedication and accomplishments. This year's event is themed: And We’re Just Getting Started. The 49th Anniversary Honorees include:
● Dr. Keith Leaphart, Physician, Entrepreneur and Philanthropist, is the recipient of The "Doer" Award. The Doer Award is presented to a leader who has made Philadelphia a better place to live, work, and play. Dr. Keith Leaphart has passionately dedicated more than 15 years to social service through his achievements as a physician, entrepreneur and philanthropist.
● JoAnne Epps, Esq., Executive Vice President and Provost at Temple University, will receive the Living Legacy Award. This award is presented to a leader who is committed to fostering the Coalition’s goal of improving life chances for youth and young adults; building wealth in urban communities; and strengthening the nonprofit sector. For more than three decades, Epps has served as an innovative leader, a distinguished educator, and a highly respected community champion for women and minorities in the legal profession and beyond.
● Dr. Marisa Guerin, Community Advocate, will receive the Community Leadership Award. This award is presented each year to honor a leader who has made major contributions to improving the quality of life for residents of the Greater Philadelphia region. Dr. Guerin, a former UAC Board Member, is a highly regarded professional, who is a champion for solutions to issues in planning, strategy, leadership effectiveness, and organizational performance in corporations, family businesses, nonprofits, and religious organizations. She currently contributes volunteer services as an educator of leaders and professionals.
“We have to continue to be intentional about our local efforts that in turn make a national impact,” said Sharmain Matlock-Turner, President and CEO of the Urban Affairs Coalition. “And we’re just getting started is our call to action to say here is what progress looks like. The Urban Affairs Coalition remains committed and consistent in addressing the challenges facing our communities, making progress through connections, collaboration and convening change block by block.”
